💬 "If I ask my guys to use an app, do I have to pay for their phone plan?"
It’s a fair question — and one we hear from owners all the time.
Let’s break it down.
✅ The Short Answer
CrewHero uses very little data.
We're talking less than 5MB per login in most cases — about the same as checking the weather or sending a few emails.
It’s nothing compared to:
- Social media apps (hundreds of MB per hour)
- Video streaming (1GB+ per hour)
- GPS navigation (50–100MB per day)
For reference:
A 1GB data plan could open CrewHero hundreds of times a month.
🧠 Why It’s So Light
We intentionally built CrewHero to be:
- Fast on older phones
- Accessible on slow networks
- Friendly to limited or prepaid data plans
CrewHero doesn’t stream video, run background processes, or sync large files.
It’s just clean, fast data — mostly text and schedule updates.
🚫 No Download = No Storage or Hidden Usage
Because CrewHero is a web app, your team doesn’t need to download updates or patches from the app store (which can eat data).
Every time they log in, they get the latest version, without needing to install anything.
💡 Should You Pay for Their Phone Plan?
That’s up to you — and lots of companies have different takes.
Here’s a quick framework some of our customers use:
Situation | Example | Should Owner Pay? |
Crew uses personal phone with CrewHero | Most teams | 🟡 Optional. Most DON’T |
Crew uses shared company phone | H2B housing or shop device | 🟢 No (your hardware) |
You ask them to use multiple apps with photos, GPS, etc. | CRM + CrewHero + other tools | 🟢 Yes (consider stipend) |
Pro Tip: If data usage is a concern, consider offering a small $10–$15/month or a $.15/HR raise to cover a phone stipend. It shows respect, encourages adoption, and costs less than the time wasted on paper, texts, and chaos.
📲 Bottom Line
- CrewHero uses almost no data
- It won’t slow their phones or burn through plans
- It works on older devices and low-signal areas
- You get a smoother operation, and they get a better experience
A small tool that saves big headaches.
